In 2018, we found a flight deal that brought us back to Europe. We traveled to 6 countries over 3 weeks. Copenhagen has always been a place that I desired to visit since I read Number the Stars, a book about a 10 year old Danish Jewish girl who escaped to Sweden during the holocaust. We only got a few days in this vibrant city but we certainly made the most out of it.
Back home in Vancouver (actually all of Canada), the brewery scene is booming. We were looking for a cool place to hang out and we had just come from Sweden where we found a super neat brewery. So we decided to find one in Copenhagen. Visiting breweries abroad has kinda become our thing.
We found WarPigs Brewpub. Located in the meat packing district, this brewpub is a Texas style barbeque joint with American style beer. They have 22 beers on tap. A was in HEAVEN!
They even make their own soda for the non-beer drinkers or kids.
The interior was casual with picnic bench style seating where everyone was encouraged to mingle. We each grabbed a beer, sat down and enjoyed some brisket and hushpuppies. When we were in line, the gentleman in front us of stated. On each table, they had a selection of their homemade sauces which you can buy. My biggest regret as I write this article is that we did not buy any of the sauces; they were delicious.
To give you an idea of how good it was, the person in front of us stated to the barbeque master 'I'm from Louisiana and this is some of the best barbeque I have ever had'. I would recommend putting this place on your bucket list next time you visit Denmark.
They had a large selection of beer including the aptly named ‘Mustard Tiger’. Of course, being Canadian, this struck a cord and we couldn’t resist asking where they got the name from. They replied: ‘Have you ever heard of a show called Trailer Park Boys?’. Yes… we found a little bit of Canada across the world in Copenhagen. By the way, if you like IPA’s, you would like the Mustard Tiger. It was my favourite!

We enjoyed the atmosphere so much that we went back every single night for more. Particularly the old school punk music (Rancid anyone??). We couldn’t get enough. We ended up going back on our last day, before flying to Germany to buy a growler. You read that right…We bought a growler which we then lugged through Berlin, Prague, Vienna and back to Iceland. We still have it proudly displayed and it’s a good conversation piece.
If you are ever in Copenhagen, I highly recommend checking out this gem. It’s off the beaten path and clearly by the shear amounts of people who flock here, it has a reputation for it’s food and craft beer.
Check out their website here.
